I would like to publicly thank the following people and websites who have been instrumental in helping me piece together this website:
Joshua Phillips
First and foremost I would like to thank Josh for introducing me to computers in the first place as without his influence, my foray into computers and the internet would have never taken place and this site would not be here today. Josh is the youngest son of Alison Gavin who is also the mother of two of my own children, Simon and Sarah.
As a four year old Josh was introduced to computers for the first time and was able to turn the computer on and find a programme called "paint" and from there began drawing pictures. I was so intrigued that he could do it I then had a computer built for me that could access the internet.
The computer was a Pentium 1 166ghz with 64MB of RAM and from there I signed up for a dial up account. At the time I could not see what all the internet fuss was about as I found it slow and boring to say the least.
However, Broadband was new to Australia and I discovered that the Telephone Exhange I was connected to in Canberra was ADSL active so I decided to sign up for an ADSL account. The speed difference was simply amazing at it was at this time in my life that I began what can only be described as a love affair with the internet which in turn began my journey into creating websites.
Roy Guy
I met Roy through my association with what was then the best website in Australia, Easycash.com.au
Roy runs his own domain registration and hosting business, Hostpac.net.au and it was through this association that the domain name angells-au.com was registered and hosting taken out through him. His help to me in putting together the original site was and still is very much appreciated.
The site today is hosted on USA servers which give's me greater scope at competitive pricing to allow it to continue.
In the early day's with this website, Roy help both myself and Simon put the site together and for that I will remain ever thankful.
Simon Angell
As I did not know a lot about building websites in the beginning, it was with the help of my son Simon that we got angells-au.com onto the internet.
Simon was still at school at the time and it was there that he had learnt a little bit about putting together websites and in particular, using HTML
With Simon's help and what I envisaged in my own mind, we managed to put the first version of angells-au.com online and though it was very basic, what I learnt from him over the following years became paramount in what you see today.
Thankyou Simon as without your help this site would not be what it is today.
Beryl Angell
Beryl was an absolute Godsend and more than instrumental in helping me out with my research.
Once I had the website up and running, I then got into Googling the family name and it lead me to countless genealogy sites, most of which were related to the Angells in America and this did not help me at all.
I finally came upon Genealogy.com and after researching the family Surname was able to make contact with Beryl who resides in England.
Beryl had already spent years researching the English family history and it was she that sent me the family tree information that makes up part of this website today.
Without her help and inspiration, I would still be at a loss as to tracing our family tree.
Merle Angell
Merle of course is our dear mother and although I felt she was reluctant to part with information in the beginning, she was able to confirm a number of things such as the name of the Ship that our first Australian ancestor arrived on and where the ship berthed.
This information alone was extremely helpful in beginning the History of the Angells in Australia.
I still feel that she can tell me a lot more yet especially relating to our father and his brothers and sisters.
I am hopeful that this will happen in time and that will enable me to update the information that is already available on this site to be added to.
Mum, I am truly grateful to you for the information that you have supplied to date and I do seriously look forward to gleaning more from you in this respect.
Ruth Sandow
Ruth Sandow runs a website known as Corner Country
Ruth is another who has been instrumental in helping me out with tracing the family history, especially the history relating to Tibooburra.
Mary Wilson
Mary Wilson runs a website known as Mary's Home Page
It was through contact with Mary that I was able get photographs of some of our ancestors headstones and for that Mary, I am eternally grateful.
Pam and Bobby
I am not sure who exactly Pam and Bobby are but they are distantly related to us via my Great Grandfather, John William Angell.
I have an idea that Pam is the Grand Daughter or Great Grand Daughter of John and Christina Angells first born child, Sarah May Middleton who became better known as Grandma Hardy.
Pam has sent me information relating to our Great Grandfather John William ANGELL and his wife, Christina Middleton and for that Pam, I thank you.
Julie Savage
Julie sent me a PDF copy of "Register Report for Thomas John JACKSON"
It was by using this report that I was able to find information on Edith Mabel ANGELL who married Percy Doyle JACKSON.
Thankyou for this information Julie it is appreciated.
Margaret Sanderson
Margaret has been responsible for passing information on to me regarding Ima May Angell and clearing up the confusion of the name of Una Angell.
The information passed to me by her included further genealogy links to the Kuerschner and Smith families of Tibooburra and Milparinka.
Grandfather William George married Jessie Louisa Kuerschner and his sister Ima May married Edward H Kuerschner.
Edward and Jessie were brother and sister.
Rhonda Bruhn
On Sunday 7th March 2010 I received an email from Rhonda with information on the Angell family in SA in particular, George Angell (b 1853) which has helped me update the information on that page.
quote: Yesterday I happened upon ANGELLS in Australia, and I don’t know how or why because I spent a great deal of time searching for German ancestors! Genealogy is a major part of my daily life as I reply to requests on Ancestry and Rootsweb Message Boards and Mailing lists since I have a collection of CDs pertaining to SA records and the time to search for elusive ancestors. I recall looking up records some time ago for Suzanne in WA who is connected to Emma ANGELL formerly BALLS nee SEARLES (married to Charles).
I am acutely aware of stumbling blocks and online misinformation in family trees and I noticed you have encountered a stumbling block concerning George ANGELL born 1853.
Google.com
Google.com Is without a doubt the greatest search engine on the internet and is the first place to look to start a search for anything at all.
I do not have to say a lot about google as the website is synomous with searching for information but it is with thanks to google that I have been able to track a lot of links that have been very helpful to me in my research.
Genealogy.com
Genealogy.com was the most instrumental of all the websites that I searched looking for information that would help me trace my family roots.
The surname Angell is prevalent througout many genealogy webistes but I found most of them are run or associated with the Mormon Church in America where the Angells themselves were involved with the foundation of the Church.
In order to be able to research the Angells from England to Australia, the only site that I found that could do that for me was Genealogy.com
To Genealogy.com and all the members of that site who have contacted and helped me, I thank you sincerely.
Wikipedia.org
Wikipedia.org has become the latest source of information that I am using to help build this webiste.
By using Wikipedia I have been able to garnish a lot of information relating to the towns in the West Darling region that are relevant to our history.
Wikipedia. like Google, is a source of information that when researching anything at all, should not be overlooked.
