Alexander Angell

Alexander (aged 20)

Alexander was the son of John William Angell and Christina Middleton. He was 6th in line having been born in Milparinka in 1888. He was fondly known as Alex.

Alex was in partnership with two elder brothers, William and John and they were tank sinkers in the Tibooburra district. They were known as the Angell Bros.

It is believed that Alex was also the father of Clarence and Olive (Illies) siblings of Florence Joan Angell, formerly Illies, nee Williams.

Alex developed cancer of the spinal cord and died in Broken Hill in 1928 at 40 years of age.

I have not been able to confirm if he was buried in Broken Hill or not. There is no listing for his burial in the Broken Hill City Council records so it is safe to say that he was buried in Tibooburra. It may well be that his headstone was one that was destroyed by vandals at the Tibooburra cemetery many years ago as I do not believe he would have been buried in an unmarked grave. Written records were destroyed after a "clean out" by a newly appointed Police Officer to Tibooburra around 50 or 60 years ago.
